CELA is saddened to report that Stephen Glick, a long-time CELA Sustaining member since 2012, passed away on June 28, 2021 after a battle with cancer.

Steve is responsible for a lot of good case law, including Prachasaisoradej v. Ralphs Grocery Co., Inc. (2007) 42 Cal.4th 217; Puerto v. Wild Oats (2008) 158 Cal.App.4th 1242; and Savon Drug Stores, Inc. v. Superior Court (Rocher) (2004) 34 Cal.4th 319, to name a few.

Of the Savon Drug Stores case, his website states: “This is the most important employment class action case in California. The question presented to the Supreme Court was whether the trial court abused its discretion in certifying as a class action this suit for recovery of unpaid overtime compensation. The Supreme Court agreed with Plaintiff and concluded it did not and accordingly reversed the decision of the Court of Appeal.”

When asked about Steve, CELA member Jim Cordes said: “Steve was a great guy. He was really helpful and went out of his way to answer my questions about his Prachasaisoradej v. Ralphs Grocery Co., Inc. case.” CELA member Richard Stavin said: “Steve was a tireless and fierce advocate for workers in class action wage and hour cases and helped establish legal precedent with some of his cases. He will be dearly missed.”

Steve was an avid supporter of City of Hope, an organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people with cancer, diabetes, and other serious illnesses.
